TVDSB a leader in appropriate use of cellphones

Posted On Monday November 04, 2019

While the Ministry of Education will impose restrictions on the use of cellphones in classrooms effective Monday, November 4, 2019 across Ontario, Thames Valley’s current policies and procedures already limit the use of personal technology at school.

The Board’s Information Technology Appropriate Usage Procedure says “handheld audio and video devices (e.g., cameras, MP3 players, cell phones) may be used in the classroom and other designated areas of the school for instructional purposes with the permission of the school administration.”

Thames Valley's practices are in keeping with the Ministry’s guidelines restricting the use of cellphones during instructional time at school – with exceptions being made for health and medical purposes, to support special education needs, or for educational purposes as directed by an educator

Expectations for the appropriate use of technology by Thames Valley students are also incorporated in each school’s Code of Conduct.
